LGBT Community to Quiz Politicos
KENILWORTH, 23 MARCH 2004 — The LGBT community will have the chance to question and challenge representatives from gay political groups and the Leader of the Green Party Group in the London Assembly about their parties’ stances on issues of concern in a forum organised by the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA).
In the light of the forthcoming Mayoral and Greater London Authority elections, a lively debate is likely to evolve around issues such as the proposed civil partnership legislation, gay hate crimes and the exemption of religious bodies from so much human rights legislation.
The public meeting, on Friday 2 April, will be held at 7.30pm in the Library at Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1 (nearest tube Holborn).
The panel will consist of Liam Curran of the Labour Campaign for Lesbian and Gay Rights; James Davenport, Chair of Gay Conservatives; Darren Johnson, Leader of the Green Party Group in the London Assembly and a London Mayoral candidate; and Alison Wheeler, Chair of DELGA (the lesbian and gay Liberal Democrat group). They will explain their parties’ stances on the various issues and take questions from the audience.
GALHA Chair Derek Lennard commented: “If our previous forums are anything to go by, this one promises to be very informative and spirited. We hope that all LGBT people who are concerned with developments in their rights will come along and give our panel a suitably tough grilling.”
